 <p>The Constitution of Mauritius provides for the Parliament of Mauritius to consist of the President and the National Assembly. The Parliament of Mauritius is modelled after the Westminster system of parliamentary democracy, where Members of Parliament are voted in at regular general elections, on the basis of a first past the post system.<\/p>                    <\/div>\n\t\t        \n                    <div id=\"the-national-assembly-tab\" class=\"clearfix eael-tab-content-item inactive\" data-title-link=\"the-national-assembly-tab\">\n\t\t\t\t        <p>The National Assembly is currently composed of 67 members, of whom 62 were elected democratically by citizens on 11 November 2024 during the National Assembly Elections held on 10 November 2024 across the 21 constituencies: <br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u2022 20 constituencies in mainland Mauritius, each returning 3 members; and<br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u2022 the 21st constituency in Rodrigues, returning 2 members.<\/p><p>In addition to the directly elected members and pursuant to paragraph 5(3) of the First Schedule of the Constitution, the Electoral Supervisory Commission has, on 12 November 2024, allocated 4 additional seats to the most successful unreturned candidate who is a member of a party and who belongs to the appropriate community, regardless of which party they belong.<\/p><p>The Attorney-General, appointed on 27 November 2024 by His Excellency the President of the Republic in accordance to sections 59 and 69 of the Constitution, completes the composition of the National Assembly and serves as an ex-officio member in the Assembly.<\/p>                    <\/div>\n\t\t                    <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction The Parliament The National Assembly The Constitution of Mauritius provides for the Parliament of Mauritius to consist of the President and the National Assembly.
